Diving Roatan with Reef Gliders
Reef Gliders was established in the West End of Roatan over 10 years ago. The current owners, John and Barbara Montgomery are originally from Phoenix, Arizona, and have been diving for many years. They first came to Roatan in 1989 and fell in love with the island, finally making the move here full time in 2009.
Our primary aim is to offer you a friendly, professional and fun scuba diving service, ensuring you get the most of your Roatan diving experience, without cutting corners on safety and ensuring that the fragile marine system surrounding Roatan and the rest of the Bay Islands remains undamaged from divers. Diving around Roatan is our passion and we know that if future generations of divers are going to enjoy the reefs of our planet then we need to dive “aware”.
We actively support, and contribute to, the Sandy Bay & West End Marine Park. We would ask all divers on Roatan to ensure that they choose to dive with a center that contributes financially to the Marine Park, as by doing so you ensure that the reef will still be around for future generations to enjoy!
We are continuously striving to improve our diving services and ensure that our customers leave Roatan with fond memories and a desire to come back and dive with us again. If you have any comments then we encourage you to give us feedback, either via this website, or using the questionnaires that are available in the store.
Boats
We are able to get you to most dive sites within 15 minutes of you jumping on one of our boats. We have 3 boats – two 26ft panga's with shade and a 22ft panga for courses. Panga’s are a popular choice for all dive centers due to their shallow draft. Our main boat has a Mercury 115hp engine, ensuring a maximum journey time of 15 to all the West End dive sites. Boats are equipped with VHF radio's, emergency oxygen, first kits, fire extinguishers and spare equipment. We also carry drinking water and mask defog on board for your convenience. Our boats are available for private charter, please contact us for more information.
Equipment & your air supply
We mainly stock Mares & Sherwood scuba diving equipment and have a range of sizes. All equipment is regularly maintained using a rigorous maintenance schedule. We have both full and shorty wetsuits and a wide selection of masks/ fins.
Your breathing air is supplied by a state of the art Max-Air 90 compressor with 4 fill whips. As a PADI Gold Palm resort we independently test our air for contaminants on a quarterly basis. Our current certificate is displayed in-store.
Our philosophy
The Reef Gliders philosophy can be summed up in three words….
Safety, Conservation and Fun!
Safety
-
Top quality rental equipment which is regularly maintained
-
Full set up, check up and break up of gear
-
Strict adherence to PADI and local safety standards
Conservation
Fun
-
To ensure that everyone gets the most out of their diving with us, beginner students are never put on the same boat with qualified divers whenever possible.
-
Our dive staff are happy to take requests for dive sites and will try and accommodate requests whenever possible.
-
Qualified Dive Masters or Instructors act as dive guides on all dives
-
Wherever possible we will try and allocate divers to boats according to experience
-
If you are an experienced diver, we do not believe in holding your hand. Subject to conditions on the day you will be allowed to dive as an independent buddy pair, providing you are both in possession of a dive computer and safety sausage (and are familiar with its use).
Subject to air consumption and dive limits, we always try and ensure a full hour of diving.
We hope you enjoy your Roatan diving experience!
